Originally several musically inclined mountain monkeys who travel the Pacific Northwest, grown into many clans of a variety of interests spread amongst several counties in and around more than a couple states. It started with Little Stevie and his portable espresso machine amongst a pile of peanut shells, what almost was going to be called Gypsy Monkeys From Hell became a phenomenon known as The Gypsy Monkeys and their first song, Big ol' Bear.
The song is not about bears. It was not even inspired by bears. There are no bears mentioned in the lyrics, and the music is not at all bear like. No bears were harmed in the making of this song. It contains no artificial bear, bear, or bear byproducts. It does not look, taste, sound, or smell like a bear. All bear rights reserved. Any resemblance to an actual bear is purely unintentional and completely coincidental and may not be viewed by anyone under the age of 30 as otherwise. The views and opinions expressed in the song are its own and in no way reflect the opinion of bears or their affiliates. Bears are not responsible for improper use of this song. It was not written for bears, or by bears, and bears probably cannot dance to it. Nonetheless, it is called Big ol' Bear.
Possibly as early as 1988 The Gypsy Monkeys have entertained themselves and others all over the place in various states of excitement and stupor. There never really can be an "official" band of gypsy monkeys, since that is contrary to the phenomenon of The Gypsy Monkeys - which is spontaneous gathering and creation of melody and fun, generally with (but not limited to) the following musicians and songwriters:
- Herb "Hobie Juan" Alarcon
- Kirk "Linearman" Klingbiel
- William "Playschool Willy" Quintin
- Carlo "Bam Bam" Reveles
- Joe "and the Amazing Joetones" Scarborough
- Mark "Funkmeister" Wilson
- Aleta "Ready Set" Yeats
Since then there have been many great collaborations and forks in the tree such as the highly creative period with Mathew Harris as Walkabout, and the beyond studio
CADAMA project.
